Frequently in education, the focus is on the end product or result. It is human tendency to always desire a concrete result. This blog seeks to challenge that notion. Often times, the journey and the process are just as important (or more important than) the end product. After all, humans are always in process. The world is always in process. The idea of becoming should feature more prominently in education. We should view our communities as entities that are becoming. In other words, we should always be focused on improving our communities and working towards common goals. Once the goals are met, the community should begin another journey. This blog will focus on the idea of community as an entity that is becoming. The focus should not be on the perfect idea of community, but rather on the current state of the community as is. This blog will be a part of a larger community of blogs that will get at the notion of community. As a member of several communities, I have experienced firsthand what makes a successful community, and what causes communities to break apart. Even though this is sometimes necessary, the anatomy of this process is essential for understanding how to help communities survive and thrive. I have also witnessed this natural cycle play out in learning communities. I hope to bring these experiences to this blog while focusing on the “process of community” and several other topics of interest.
